Established in 1990
The company was established in 1990 by Bjorn Gudmundsson, blacksmith and car enthusiast who had quite a lot of experience in repairing trucks and heavy machinery. From 1997 the main core business was service and repair on trailers of all kinds in a quite small facility. In 2007 his son, Gudmundur took over the family business. The tragic thing happened in June 2008 when Bjorn past away quite sudden.
In Oktober 2018 a new 2.300 sqm workshop was opened with the aim to expand the service to its customers. A well equiped workshop with the best possible facility for customers and employees gives the company an opportunity to be amongst the best in the business.
The company has been recognised as one of Iceland´s strongest companies in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and now again in 2018. Only about 2% of all Icelandic companies in all sectors of business are worthy of this recognition and its quite an honor. Eligibility for the award requires the fulfilment of Creditinfo's strict quality standards, professional requirements and in-depth analysis (www.creditinfo.is).
The name of the company, Vorubila- & Vinnuvelaverkstaedid (e. Trucks and Heavy machinaries workshop) is in Icelandic a bit long but it tells a lot what its business is. But it´s a bit “clumsy” and “unmanageable”. The decision of changing the name was not easy, but finding a name was. The founder of the company was often called Bjorn Sleggja (e. Sledghammer) for he was thought to be very resourceful and he was not know for giving up easily. In his honor (and we think the name is awesome) the decision was made to change the name of the company to Sleggjan.
We strive to be the best in what we do.
